of cabbages and kings
hey look!
I do things other than model buildings!
don't know if I mentioned in here or not, but me and my friend Tiffany Bogus (tbogus.blogspot.com) recently were able to collaborate on a couple excellent skateboard designs to benifit Sk8Skool Sarasota. I did the initial sketch and some linework and Tiff deciphered and inked my messy lines and added the color.
this is the first board we did. Tiff decided on this really cool style where she sanded down the board before I put the sketch on, so that the wood grain would show through the painting.
close ups:

this one had a real sweet americana feel to it, so when we were asked (!!!) to do another board, I knew I wanted, nay, NEEDED, to do some koi and give it a good cheesy asian feel. granted I basically just embraced every stereotypical image I'd ever seen on Miami Ink, but whatever, it came out pretty nifty.
to say I was blown away by the color is a vast understatement. Tiff totally knocked this one out, we'll try to get some better pictures because these are kinda blurry, but regardless:
(I just realized that that photo is actually upside down... that's the bottom of the board. whoops. oh well, you get the idea.)

I friggin love this board. and if it wasn't already promised to the guy who, you know, comissioned it, I would keep it in an instant.
anyway, do check out Tiff's blog, she's got a pretty good illustrator's-pov-of-the-painting-process that I basically knew nothing about.
