projects!

okay I'm hoping at least half of you will get that because it made me laugh so hard I think the guy sitting next to me questioned my sanity (if he hasn't already).
Seriously though, good news everyone! Two things!
First and foremost, for the past few weeks I've been working on an insane promo for the Oscars on ABC. This is the first really wide-audience thing I've done and I'm really excited to potentially see it as was meant to be seen - on an HDTV while sitting on my couch watching basic cable. It's supposed to start airing as early as tomorrow and is almost assuredly going to play during LOST on wednesday night.
I'd love to post some process stuff but I'll wait til it airs...plus all the movie files I tried uploading were too frakin' huge to, well, upload, and that in itself should tell you a bit about the scale of this thing.
Second, I've been working on a new model based on a character I've been doodling since what, sophomore year? The trouble is that I draw him with as few lines as humanly possible and I simply don't model that way - I like really curvy character models (click and click), so this would be a bit of a challenge for me. Lots of straight edges and hard surfaces, but he still has to look like an organic goat-dude.

of course now that I upload that I see that his mouth / upper lip is too low on his face. dangit! I also think he could still be even 'flatter' than he is now, more geometric, so I'm going to keep tweaking the geometry in my spare time. I've also got to figure out how to do his hair!
(Did you know the new OS version of Grab won't let you take a screencap while the DVD player is open? sneaky, sneaky!)
