the trouble with smoothing

well, spring break's over so it's back to work!

I've noticed that my character loses a lot of her, well, character, in going from maya view to rendered.

I like the one on the right so much better! aaaaaughhhhh...
a lot of it probably stems from the 'smoothness' of her face, that is, you can't see the wrinkles that connect her nose and mouth when she's all lit and prettyified, and that lends a lot to the expression. also, her glasses are too reflecive and hides her eyes too much. I'm going to try to fix it up asap.

Yeah, I was going to say that the glasses are probably the biggest thing hiding her emotion right now...also, the face in the one on the right seems a lil bit longer than the other one? I dunno, looks good though
